Powered by a custom GIS solution from Pegasus, SATHI (friend in Hindi) is a mobile computing platform developed
for the Indian Army. Working together with officers of the Indian Army, Pegasus customised its GIS product
for situational awareness and tactical applications of soldiers on the field.
The GIS on SATHI is interfaced to the in-built GPS receiver and radio modem of the device.
SATHI GIS runs under Linux on custom hardware developed by Encore Software Ltd; field devices communicate to a back-channel GIS running under Linux on Intel platforms.
GIPSY running under Wintel platforms serves as a data gateway for field devices.
Using SATHI GIS, jawans on the field can track and monitor georeferenced positions of self and other corp members on military maps in vector or
raster format. During recce trips map data may be created, edited and transferred over the air through a radio modem interface.
